Preventing Data Loss
It doesn’t seem that important to back up your data, especially on your personal computer. For some reason we tend to believe that attacks or hard drive crashes won’t happen to us.
However, this is a false sense of security that can get you into some sad situations. It is important to always back up your data, whether you have 5 GB at home or 500 GB at work. Comparatively speaking, it doesn’t even take that long. These other five tasks take just as long, if not longer the time it would take to back up about 200 GB of data with a fairly fast internet provider and computer speed—about two days.
Renovating Your Kitchen
A kitchen renovation is no small undertaking. Depending on how extensive the remodel is, it can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of months. If you are planning to renovate a few aspects of your kitchen like the floor, countertops, or cabinets, you might as well back up your data at the same time. It will take about as long, if not less time, than your renovation will.
Using Your iPod Battery
Depending on the amount of data you have, a transfer could take less than 48 hours. Coincidentally, newer models of iPods have the capacity to last for 40 hours of listening time. You can set up your data protection and then sit back in a music-induced coma and wait for it to finish up.
Driving Across the Country
According to Google Maps, driving from the Los Angeles, California to New York City, New York would take about 40 hours to complete. However, a straight shot of driving probably wouldn’t actually happen. Even with rotating drivers, after accounting for filling up for gas, taking pit stops, and getting food the total would be pretty close to 48 hours. Just enough time for you to back up all your data!
Growing a Chia Pet
It’s a little old school, but who says that Chia Pets aren’t cool anymore? They’re still making new ones with celebrities like President Obama and Uncle Si from “Duck Dynasty.” In the time it takes to get your data backed up you could have some seeds sprouting on your Chia Pet.
Shipping a Package
When you order products online there is usually an estimated shipping time of at least two days, if not four. In the time that it takes you to order your new Chia Pet and have it delivered, you could easily back up your data plus some.
Why Backing Up Matters
It still might not seem like it matters to secure your data, but before you avoid doing it completely, consider what you might have at stake. There could be sentimental things like pictures and videos, professional items like business figures and reports, or anything else like a novel you’ve been working on or a digital scrapbook.
If you are faced with a logical (software related) hard drive failure “Do-it-yourself” Hard drive recovery software is a great solution. If the hard drive is physically (dropped, crushed, etc.) damaged you will need to hire a professional hard drive recovery service. The Data Rescue Center offers affordable and professional hard drive recovery.
Data loss can come out of nowhere and catch you off guard, so it is better to take the time to be prepared than to mourn over your losses later.
