About Maxtor

Maxtor, the American computer hard disk drive manufacturer was founded in 1982 by three former IBM employees, James McCoy, Jack Swartz, and Raymond Niedzwiecki. Interestingly, the name for the company was derived from the words maximum and storage. Maxtor’s first product, the Maxtor XT-1140, was released just a year after opening in 1983. Over the next several years, this company continued to expand and acquire other companies to become the third largest hard disk drive manufacturer in the world. However, by 1992, Maxtor was beginning to go downhill and almost had to file for bankruptcy. Seagate Technology saw an opportunity and saved the company by purchasing Maxtor in 2006. Some of their common products include the OneTouch series, the MaXLine series, and the BlackArmor series.
