About Seagate

Seagate Technology is one of the largest competitors in the hard disk storage industry today. Founded in America and based in Dublin, Ireland, Seagate was originally incorporated as Shugart Technology in 1978. Since 2010, their operational headquarters have been located in Cupertino, California, while their legal entity is still in Dublin. In 1980, Seagate released their first product, the 5-megabyte ST-506, which was a 5.25-inch hard disk drive. This product was a huge hit and Seagate later released a 10-megabyte version called the ST-412, as well as a couple of larger sizes. IBM quickly became one of their greatest partners, accounting for over 60% of their total purchases. Working with IBM, Seagate had taken a larger portion of the single-user hard drive market. Over the years, Seagate continued to move to the top of the market by purchasing divisions of other companies and releasing new products like the Barracuda HDDs in 1991 and the Cheetah series in the late 1990’s, early 2000’s.

Today, Seagate’s successful corporation offers an extensive array of data storage devices from hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs) to cloud-based systems. This company meets many of the needs in this market with options for personal and business use. For personal use, Seagate offers desktop and external drives for PCs and Macs in different series called Backup Plus and Personal Cloud. For business purposes, Seagate offers the same devices used by the singular consumer in addition to NAS and RAID specialized systems. Whether you need a portable drive for your personal laptop like the Backup Plus Portable Drive or a network attached storage device like the Seagate NAS 2-Bay, this company has got you covered.
